Inside this article

Ethereum is no longer in the same technical position as in our September 11 article. The earlier question was whether ETH could defend the range built after the August rally. Reuters then highlighted the next stage on September 22: a break above $2,661.52, the resistance capping that consolidation.

That creates a different search intent: not “can the range hold?” but “what must happen for the breakout to remain valid?”

Reuters described the move as a breakout from a continuation structure after the earlier rally. That does not mean its technical upside zones must be reached. A breakout remains useful only while price can defend reclaimed levels.

Macro context still matters

ETH strength is developing while U.S. yields and Fed policy remain restrictive. That makes it important to separate two possibilities: a rally driven by easier macro conditions, or ETH-specific relative strength despite a difficult macro backdrop.

Holding above former resistance while yields remain elevated would show resilience. A quick return below $2,661 followed by a loss of $2,560-$2,565 would reduce breakout quality.

Stocktwits as a radar

ETH remains heavily watched on Stocktwits today. That measures retail attention, not technical confirmation. Confirmation comes from price behaviour around the levels.

What cannot be inferred

A breakout does not guarantee a straight continuation. It can become consolidation, a false break or a deeper retest. For CFD traders, the useful step is to define invalidation first and then adapt position size to actual volatility.
