XAUUSD H1 after the US midterms: the observed 5 November 2026 move
The US midterm elections gave Democrats majorities in both the House and Senate. This was not a presidential election: Donald Trump remains president, while Congress can constrain parts of his legislative agenda. On 4 and 5 November, the US dollar and Treasury yields moved lower and gold rallied. The timing is observable, but that does not demonstrate that every individual hourly candle was caused by a political decision. Nor does a congressional majority itself set Federal Reserve interest rates.
Start with price, source and exact time
Reuters reported spot gold at $4,124.89 per troy ounce at 07:52 UTC on 5 November, up 1.6%, after an intraday touch of $4,146.63. Gold had gained roughly 3.4% on Wednesday. Those are Reuters observations with their own timestamp, not executable prices for an MT5 CFD. Reuters separately confirmed the congressional result. What actual hourly candles are available?
A second source, independent of both Reuters and Disciply, displays a recorded XAUUSD H1 table of ten rows, captured at 09:01 UTC on 5 November. Its labels use Vietnam time, UTC+7: a displayed 07:00 opening corresponds to 00:00 UTC. The first nine hourly bars, beginning at 00:00 through 08:00 UTC, were completed; the tenth, starting at 09:00 UTC, was still open at the capture time. It must not be described as a closed bar. These are not guaranteed Disciply KLine prices, a CME gold futures contract or your broker's MT5 ticks.
First expansion: from $4,065 toward $4,125
The sample's 00:00 UTC bar opened at 4,065.56, reached 4,096.80, fell to 4,061.35 and closed at 4,088.66. The next hour opened at 4,088.66, printed a high of 4,135.14 and closed at 4,124.66. This is an observed price expansion, not proof of an institutional order, hidden stops or measured order-book liquidity. Falling bond yields and a weaker dollar form a plausible macro backdrop. That backdrop is different from identifying the buyer behind each trade.
Hourly high and differences between providers
At 03:00 UTC, the recorded candle opened at 4,130.26, reached 4,146.94, printed a low of 4,127.33 and closed at 4,140.50. Reuters reported an intraday high of 4,146.63 on another feed. The $0.31 difference should remain visible: providers, pricing conventions and rounding can differ. Do not advertise 4,146.94 as the universal high of every broker or exchange. It is a sampled hourly high, tied to its specific source and period.
The 05:00 UTC pullback matters
The 05:00 UTC candle declined from 4,140.64 to a low of 4,108.95 and closed at 4,114.59. Rapid rallies can be followed by profit taking or changing liquidity, but OHLC alone cannot identify sellers. The 06:00 candle closed at 4,127.02; the 07:00 candle at 4,124.07; and the 08:00 candle at 4,126.83. This sequence supports an observation of cooling and consolidation after the impulse. It does not establish a straight-line uptrend or provide enough history to verify a medium-term hourly structure.
Three observed reference levels, not promises
The sample high of 4,146.94 can be used as a historical reaction reference to compare with later H1 closes. The 05:00 low at 4,108.95 is the documented floor of that pullback, not a guaranteed support. The 00:00 low at 4,061.35 belongs to the first displayed candle and is not automatically the full-session low. A brief excursion above 4,146.94 followed by an H1 close back below has different meaning from sustained acceptance above it. A break below 4,108.95 would invite reassessment of the recovery. These are conditional reading criteria, not buy or sell instructions.
Why the elections affected market pricing
A Congress controlled by the party opposing the president can make major fiscal or trade legislation harder to pass. Markets reviewed assumptions about the deficit, growth, energy, political risk and possible interest-rate paths. Reuters recorded the dollar at its weakest level in over a month and a rally in Treasuries, meaning falling yields. A softer dollar can make dollar-priced gold cheaper for holders of other currencies. Lower yields can reduce the opportunity cost of an asset that pays no interest. None of these relationships imply that Democratic victories always raise gold prices.
Oil, inflation and the Federal Reserve channel
Oil prices declined after the election as participants considered geopolitical risks and the chance of easing tensions. Cheaper energy can moderate some inflation pressure and shift the expected path of policy rates. The Federal Reserve, however, is not directed by a political party and must assess employment, inflation and economic conditions. A responsible explanation therefore keeps elections, oil prices, nominal and real yields, and the dollar as separate factors. The day cannot be explained by the shorthand that one political party guarantees a bullish gold market.
The next catalyst is already scheduled
The Bureau of Labor Statistics schedules the October 2026 Employment Situation report for Friday 6 November at 08:30 US Eastern time, equal to 13:30 UTC and 14:30 in Italy that day. This is a future release relative to this article. We do not invent payroll totals, the unemployment rate, revisions or the market's response. A surprise relative to expectations could move the dollar and yields, changing gold's hourly structure irrespective of any new election headline. Working with H1 without manufacturing a trade signal
First verify that the bar has closed, that its opening time has been converted correctly and that the quoted instrument matches the one you can actually trade. A candle closing beyond a range is different from a price spike that immediately falls back. A wick is not proof of centralized spot-gold volume or a measured cluster of stop orders. Save the observation time, source URL and OHLC values. If a provider revises the data later, note that revision. A complete structural study requires much more verified closed-bar history than nine isolated hours.
Where this fits inside Disciply
The XAUUSD asset hub separates charts, sources, macro context and risk checks. The Market Breakdown archive publishes historical studies when the required immutable OHLC snapshot is verified. This page is a dated macro commentary with a limited external H1 sample, not a new fully certified 64-candle Market Breakdown and not an MT5 execution quote. If full source data are missing, leave the chart unverified instead of filling it with synthetic candles.
Conclusion and limits
The verifiable event is a significant gold rally following Democrats' congressional victories, accompanied by lower US yields and a weaker dollar. The limited hourly sample shows early expansion, an observed high around $4,147 and a retracement toward $4,109 before stabilization. Later closes, the US employment release and changing yields could all alter the picture. This is educational market context, not a certain forecast or individual trading advice.
