Why floating profit is not enough

A position can be temporarily profitable while having a very distant stop, while another can be losing with a close stop. Looking only at the current result does not tell you how much capital is actually exposed if the market reaches the stops. Useful control starts from the potential loss defined by the plan and also considers concentration in correlated instruments or positions pointing in the same direction.

What to check on open positions

For every trade, verify that the stop loss exists and matches the intended risk, then check the position's weight in total account risk. If several trades depend on the same market move, do not treat them as fully independent risks. An effective dashboard should help you see aggregate exposure, risk distribution and changes when you move a stop or add a new position.
