XAUUSD H1 weekly analysis: September 28–October 2, 2026

01What happened

XAUUSD H1 opened the week with a sharp downside expansion and then moved into partial recovery phases that never fully erased Monday’s structural damage. The price action came first: gold showed directional pressure, later stabilization and rebounds, but each recovery had to contend with elevated U.S. yields and a supported dollar. Reuters described spot gold as down about 3.4% on the week; the official quantitative measure on the page remains the Disciply H1 snapshot.

02The move

Monday’s sell-off was the dominant move, followed by a partial Tuesday recovery and a more two-way market around macro releases. Wednesday’s PCE briefly improved the backdrop for gold, but the reaction failed to develop persistent acceptance. Friday’s weak NFP triggered an initial rally of more than 1% according to Reuters, before that recovery was absorbed. The weekly sequence was therefore: downside expansion, stabilization, temporary macro-driven rebounds, renewed pressure.

03Before the move

The intermarket backdrop remained central throughout the week. Oil above 100 dollars per barrel reinforced inflation concerns, while long-dated Treasury yields reached multi-decade highs. That raised the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding gold and supported the dollar. H1 therefore shows a market attempting several recoveries inside a macro-financial environment that remained restrictive.

04News / catalyst

The August PCE rose 0.3% month on month versus 0.4% expected according to Reuters. The release reduced expectations of an immediate Fed hike and initially supported gold and Treasuries, but the move was partly absorbed as energy and yields returned to the center of attention. September NFP showed +29,000 payrolls versus +90,000 expected; unemployment rose to 4.2% from 4.1% and July-August were revised down by a combined 60,000 jobs. Gold initially reacted to the weaker labor report but did not hold the advantage through the full session.

05Price structure

On H1 the week was not a single linear trend, but a powerful initial displacement that changed the reference range and left later rebounds corrective in nature. The weekly high and low, together with the opening and closing prices, are calculated directly from the Disciply snapshot and displayed in the quantitative summary. The key educational point is that post-data rebounds did not convert into a persistent new bullish structure.

06Liquidity

The extremes created by the initial sell-off became the main liquidity references for the week. Later recoveries explored the upper part of the new range without creating persistent value migration. No sweep is treated as an automatic reversal: the reading depends on the reaction that follows and on whether price can build outside prior areas.

07Session and timing

The most informative phases clustered around London-New York transitions and U.S. data windows. The chart uses London, New York and overlap shading to show where participation increases. PCE and NFP were both released at 14:30 CEST, during the transition into the most liquid part of New York; price action is treated as an observed reaction, not automatic causality.

08Volume / volatility

09The Disciply perspective

The macro backdrop explains why data that looked supportive for gold did not create a linear continuation. Elevated oil revived inflation and rate concerns on Monday, helping push U.S. yields and the dollar higher. Softer PCE temporarily reduced Fed-hike expectations, but long-dated Treasuries remained at extremely elevated levels. On Friday, weak NFP reinforced the case for a less aggressive Fed in the very short run, yet gold remained sensitive to persistent yields and relative dollar strength.

10What this move teaches us

The week shows why a supportive macro surprise is not enough by itself to reverse a pressured structure. PCE and especially NFP produced clear reactions, but persistent yields and dollar strength prevented those moves from becoming a stable new directional phase. The lesson is to separate the event, the first reaction and the later acceptance.
